Luke and I first crossed paths in 2017—what felt like a simple, passing moment.It wasn’t.He was giving a tour of his property, sharing his hopes for the future. I remember noticing how tired he seemed, but also how steady—like a man carrying more than most, yet still moving forward with quiet determination. And the way he sought out his children, the way he connected with them… it stayed with me. He was a loving father. You could feel it.From his side, I was just a woman in a baseball cap—until I looked up.And in his words… I was stunning.Then life moved on, and we didn’t speak again for more than five years.What we didn’t know at the time was that we were both stepping into a wilderness—two lives beginning to unravel in different places, carrying heavy burdens, trying to find our way without losing ourselves. We were walking separate paths……but somehow being shaped for the same one.All the while, fate held onto a single thread—waiting.On December 22nd, 2022, that thread was pulled.I reached out with a simple message of concern. He answered. And what started as one conversation became many—long, honest conversations, sometimes lasting hours.In the middle of chaos, we became a steady place for each other.I watched Luke fight for his life, his family, and his vision—determined not to lose who he was, even when everything around him felt like it was slipping away. And I cheered him on, because he deserved someone in his corner.And in his words, my voice became a guide through some of his hardest days.Somewhere along the way, something began to shift. I began to open up, Luke became my rock, steadying me, as the storms raged around me. My faith that good men still existed started to come back—because of the way he showed up, endured, and loved.And for Luke, in the middle of his wilderness, there came a quiet moment in prayer—a promise placed on his heart:That healing was coming. Not just for him and his children… but for me and mine too.He held onto that promise like a compass, long before we could see how it would ever come true.Still, it wasn’t time.Life was refining us both—through fire, through distance, through responsibilities we couldn’t walk away from. We stood beside each other from afar—pushing each other to grow, holding each other’s grief, cheering for each others victories, becoming something neither of us expected… but both of us needed.And then, in a way only life can orchestrate—Everything fell apart at once.The ships we had fought to keep afloat finally sank. The tapestry unraveled completely.And somehow… that’s where everything began.Luke didn’t hesitate.He showed up—not just in words, but in action.He flew to Tennessee, stepped into the chaos of my life and got to work. That first trip became many.He kept showing up.And I never asked him to leave.But in the middle of all of that, I needed to ask him something.I asked him if he would ever resent me—if he gave so much of himself to help me, and I didn’t return those feelings.And without hesitation, he said,“I have no expectations. I will never resent you. I just want you to know how you deserve to be loved.”That was the moment everything changed.Because I realized—I had never truly been loved like that before. Not for who I was. Not in a way that was steady, selfless, and real.And I knew.If I could choose anyone to walk this life with… it would be him.Of course, the people who saw it most clearly were our kids.They kept asking the obvious question: “Why aren’t you dating?”Eventually, Luke gave in, picked up the phone, and asked, “Do you want to go steady?”That was the first yes.Two months later he purchased the ring.On New Year’s Eve 2025, he sat me down and had a very serious conversation about how hard marriage can be—convincing me he still hadn’t made up his mind.At midnight, he turned off the live stream, got down on one knee, and asked me to build a life with him.I looked at him and asked, “Are you sure?”He was.And I said yes.Not just in that moment—but in all the quiet moments before it, and every day since.We found each other in the wilderness.We carried each other through the fire.We held onto a thread neither of us fully understood.And now—Together, we’re planting a garden.Side by side. Hand in hand. With hearts that have been tested, refined, and finally… brought home to each other.
